Harmony Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a progressive practice of unwinding, bit by bit peeling off layers of stress. Every time you practice the experience will be different. Some days the mind won’t quiet, other days it may seem like nothing is happening and then suddenly you realize that you have been sound asleep. My favorite experience is when I enter a conscious state of dreaming.
Try to welcome whatever happens, I find there are wonderful benefits even when my mind has a hard time focusing.
In this post there are two meditation options to suit varying needs. The recording above is the full Yoga Nidra with a prompt at the end to return to a fully awake state. Below is a variation that has NO body scan/ rotation of consciousness.
Note: Most of my students magically return to a state of consciousness when prompted to do so, but I can’t guarantee that you will wake up if you fall into a restful sleep. If you have things to do after listening, set an alarm, ideally one with a pleasant sound to gently big you back to wakefulness.
Meditation Elements
“Harmony” is designed as a beginning of the journey of learning to deeply relax mind and body. It offers a bit longer of a settling in period than many Yoga Nidras for those of us who need extra time to unwind.
Instead of intention setting, which can be disruptive to the mind and relaxation process, I’ve chosen to place a focus on the heart center and connecting to unconditional love.
There are periods of breath awareness, inner sanctuary, a body scan/ rotation of consciousness (again there is an option below with NO body scan), feeling sensations of heaviness and lightness, and feeling the sensations of balance and harmony, and a prompt to return to a fully wakeful state.
Variation without Body Scan
This variation has no body scan and ends with a prompt to guide you back to full consciousness. Again, no guarantees that you will wake up if you have fallen into a restful sleep.
I hope you enjoy!
