Beautiful Spirit, Yoga Nidra for Sleep
I found myself triggered recently, and I hated it. My nervous system was suddenly, unexpectedly, over the edge. In a split second I went from collected and on top of everything, or so I thought, into an irritated state of being. What I hated most was that I couldn’t instantly pull it back, I judged myself for not being able to shut that state down, and for even flipping into it over such a small thing.
Upon reflection, of course I can see that I was juggling way too much that day and wasn’t paying attention to my own needs. I was moving into a state of overwhelm and my nervous system was doing its best to protect me.
Why was I judging myself for my self-protective instincts? So many answers to that, but it’s been a really interesting question and experience to contemplate.
The elements of this meditation came from the need to calm, ground, release self-judgement, and have more self-compassion. It focuses on developing feelings of safety and support, peeling away layers of stress, creating balance, and connecting with the beauty that lives within.
Meditation Elements
There are periods of breath awareness, intention setting, a body scan/ rotation of consciousness (and a variation below with NO body scan), feeling sensations of irritation balanced with feelings of calm, and connecting to the pure essence of your spirit. It ends with a prompt to rest and sleep for as long as you need.
Note: You may or may not have a clear intention, they are not always ready to make themselves known. Do your best to observe what may arise without expectation.
NO Body Scan Option
In the variation below the body scan has been removed, the rest of the meditation is the same. It ends with a prompt to rest and sleep for as long as you need.
May you sleep well,
🩷 Christie
